Lot contains: A) 1st Cavalry officers helmet with black wool-covered cork body with two-piece brass eagle front plate displaying the German silver number "1" on the shield, and Cavalry side buttons. The metal fittings retain much of their original fire-gilt finish. The helmet exhibits gold knotted cords at the front and back and a yellow yak hair plume extends from the spike. The interior is lined with white silk with a tan leather sweatband. CONDITION: The front visor exhibits areas of breakage, silk lining shows areas of minor wear, the remainder of the body is solid. B) 17th Infantry officers helmet with black wool-covered cork body with two-piece brass eagle front plate displaying the German silver numbers "17" on the shield, interlocking brass chain, and infantry side buttons. All components are as prescribed for the model 1881 and are original to the helmet. The interior is partially lined with black and white striped silk, produced without a leather sweatband. CONDITION: Very good condition showing consistent wear but no damage, interior silk exhibits areas of wear. From the Ray Bentley collection.
