Painted paper mache nutcracker created in 1820 in Thuringia, Germany with a cardboard hat and cotton hair and beard. The provenance is documented in the German book, "Spielzeug Und Handwerkskunst Aus Thuringen Und Dem Erzgebirge" p.181. There are cracks in the paint, a small tear and repair on hat points. The cracker arm has some tape repair. The "1905" written underneath base is the date of the former owner’s gift. The sword is a new addition.
