This specimen is stamped with the bear on left side of frame; this bear stamp is not documented but is attributed to the California Militia. These revolvers were manufactured in the mid-1870's with a very short production run and feature six shot, single action, blued finish and smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Barrel legend is sharp. All metal surfaces are a freckled blue-brown patina. There is evidence overall of light pitting. Appears to have some wiped-on finish. Sideplate has been removed and does not fit flush. Majority of screws heads are marred. Walnut grips have been refinished and are slightly undersized. Cylinder does not index when hammer is cocked. Bore shows visible lands and grooves with black powder abrasion. A very scarce, Frontier era .44 revolver with scarce bare stamp.
