Extremely fine, large painting, in very good to excellent. Frame has some damage in corners, notably upper and lower left facing. Note: Perhaps one of his greatest works, completed in 1852, New Bedford, Massachusetts; this is an allegorical work rich in symbolism of his views on American expansion in relation to Europe’s past, the central female figure representing a search for truth. Several essays have been written regarding the painting, one of which titled "American Expansionism and Universal Allegory: William Allen Walls 'Nativity of Truth'" by Angela Miller in the "New England Quarterly", Vol 63, No. 3, published September 1990, by the New England Quarterly Inc, page 446-467.
