In bronze gilt with purple, red, green and white enamels, engraved "Clarence W. Oakes StM 2c USNR" on the reverse, original ribbon with wrap brooch pinback, roll catch, intact enamels. On February 17, 1945 the USS Pensacola while engaged in a reconnaissance mission off Iwo Jima received six hits from Japanese coastal batteries, one of which punctured her hull on the starboard side forward, killing three officers and 14 men, wounding 98. CONDITION: Medal is in excellent condition. Ribbon shows some soiling.
