An early SA "Hochland/Bayernwald" SA Kepi in excellent condition. Worn by the early SA Brownshirts, these Kepi's were the organization's traditional headware. The base of the Kepi is constructed of two parts; a lower half using a cotton twill, and the upper half which used a wool tricot. The cotton twill lower half is in near mint condition, with only a few areas of light wear to the high points and a few very minor fabric snags. The upper section, made of cornflower blue dyed wool tricot, is in near mint condition. The upper section has no damage that can be seen and shows only slight wear to the fabric and some light, even fading of the colors. A cotton twisted blue and white piping runs the perimeter of the cap's top and center. The piping was very skillfully attached by hand stitching. No damage can be seen to the piping, and only a few areas of light patina have occurred over time. A zinc political eagle is attached to the front of the cap, using three prongs. The center dish button shows wear and approximately 40% of its silvering can be seen. The brown adjustable leather chinstrap is held to the cap by two black enameled buttons on the sides. The strap is in excellent condition and is still slightly pliable. The interior of the cap is lined with a black cotton twill fabric, which is in near mint condition and shows faint number markings. The leather sweatband is securely attached to the cap by skillful zig-zag machine stitching. It appears a tag was removed from the sweatband at some point, as evidence of the stitching holes can be seen on the band. The underside of the band is also marked with the date "1938" and a marked out area which could have possibly been the original owner or unit. Original SA Kepi's don't come to the market very often anymore. Combined with the Hochland/Bayernwald SA Shirt Set in another lot of this auction, this would make one fantastic display.
GERMAN THIRD REICH HOCHLAND/BAYERWALD SA KEPI.
