An early, and quite uncommon, field worn Gebirgsjager (Mountain Troops) Bergmutze. The overall condition of this cap is excellent. The cap shows signs of daily wear which has given it a lot of character. The base material of the cap is feldgrau wool which shows even wear and fading on the exposed areas There is some slight staining on part of the bill and the left rear area of the cap. Small field repairs can be seen on the underside of the bill and the cap's left side. The areas of wool which have not been directly exposed to wear, or the sunlight, are much brighter in color and retain most of the its original nap. The Hoheitszeichen (cap eagle) is the early, and very desirable, "T" style configuration which was very skillfully applied to the cap by hand stitching. Two green painted zinc buttons on the front of the cap, that secure the pull down ear flaps, show an even wear and appear to be originally applied. The pull down ear flaps have been hand sewn to the bottom of the cap to permanently secure the flaps in place. This may have been the original owner's decision to alter the cap in this way. The side of the cap has a zinc Edelweiss emblem, hand stitched in place. The wool directly under the Edelweiss seems to be slightly darker and indicates that the emblem may very likely be original to the cap. The interior of the cap is lined with a thin grey ribbed cotton, which is in excellent condition, showing slight staining and even wear from daily use. The interior also has a leather sweatband which has cracked in several areas, but is mostly intact.
GERMAN WWII HEER MOUNTAIN TROOPERS "BERMUTZE" CAP.
