This Star Gauge factory sporting rifle features the Star Gauge round barrel, standard military front sight, Lyman 48 peep sight, walnut half stock, no finger grooves, square pistol grip, straight comb, coarse checkered proper steel buttplate with no trapdoor. Barrel stamped "SA (Ordnance bomb) 6-32". Block letter "P" in circle on wrist. All milled parts. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 90% blue. Three sets of tap holes for scope. 1" area of light abrasion on top of barrel. 90% original finish on frame. Nickel steel "NS" stamped bolt. ME reading: 1. Strong action. Clean bore with strong rifling. These were some of the first bolt action sporting rifles for the government caliber in the US and were considered some of the finest bolt action sporting rifles ever manufactured by the government. This rifle is in excellent condition, ready to shoot; if you have a nice Unertl or similar tube scope (we have a couple in this auction), they would be perfectly suited for this rifle. CORRECTION: This NRA Sporter is listed by serial number on the DCM rifle sales list and will come with a letter from Springfield research denoting factory applied three sets of scope block holes, it is the opinion of the publisher of Springfield researcher that this is on the only known factory tapped for scope model to surface and is fully documented. The spacing was made specifically for a Fecker tube scope. Sold to A.G. Stevens of 46 Manchester Street, Manchester, New Hampshire on May 13th, 1933. Springfield research letter included.
