Lot consists of: Gun (A) Model 1898 rifle. Standard 1898 military rifle featuring full round barrel, forend cap with bayonet lug and sling, single band with sling, 1901 rear sight, smooth steel buttplate, sling in stock, blued finish, walnut stock. Stock has cursive "P" at wrist, side cartouche is partially visible but not readable. Brass muzzle cap. CONDITION: Barrel has approximately 75% original blue with some age spotting 5" forward of rear band. 50% original blue on forend cap. 50% blue on barrel band. Loading gate retains 50% blue mixed with grey patina. 90% fire blue on extractor. 75% blue on frame and plate. Traces of case colors on safety. 85% original blue on trigger guard. Stock is excellent. Fine action. Very good, strong bore. Gun (B) Model 1898 cut-down rifle. Standard model that stock and barrel have been cut down. Replaced front sight, original rear barrel band, 1901 rear sight, blued finish, walnut stock and smooth buttplate. Remains of left side cartouche visible but not readable. Script "P" I wrist. Fire blue extractor. 1903 Springfield type two frog sling. CONDITION: Blue-grey finish with some minor salt and pepper texture on left side of frame and sideplate. Blue-grey patina on loading gate. Very good bore and action. Probably a good shooter as is or lots of great parts. Gun (C) Model 1898 rifle. Barrel is Winchester with ramp front sight and Williams rear sight added. CONDITION: Forearm is missing. Rear sight has been plugged and sanded. Frame has been cleaned and has pitting. Grey loading gate and fire blue extractor. 70% blue on sideplate. Brown freckled trigger guard. Because this is a Winchester barrel, it should be tested by a gunsmith for correct caliber before shooting as it could be a different chambering that is not marked.
