Outstanding example of a Browning Model 1918 automatic rifle with "MODEL 1918" model designation on top of receiver with US flaming bomb proof mark. This gun has been retrofitted with a smooth, hard black composition buttstock with flip-up shoulder rest, uncheckered wooden forearm, carrying handle, bipod, third (and best) model gas port adjustment nut, and three position selector making it of 1918 A2 configuration. Barrel is devoid of markings. External receiver serial number is the only visible serial number. One 20 round magazine included. Many 1918 Model BARs were retrofitted for World War II and later as this one has been. The concept had changed from providing a "Walking Fire" to a gun which could be utilized both in this manner and as a bipod mounted machine gun. Soldiers often stripped the excess weight of the bipod and carrying handle off the guns during combat use. Extremely fine to near excellent as arsenal refurbished. Smooth grey finish on metal parts; some thinning and blemishes to the finish on the barrel. Rear sight is a New England Small Arms replacement. Right side of receiver shows scattered pinprick pitting under the refinish which in no way detracts from the overall handsomeness of this gun. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Forend and buttstock show some light handling marks. The BAR is an extremely popular machine gun at the range and certain to bring a smile to any who fire it. This specimen is particularly handsome. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
