Made by H&R for Belknap Hardware Company of Louisville, Kentucky, who used Essex Gun Works as a trade name, this "handy gun" has 12 - 1/4" blued barrel marked "MADE IN U.S.A. 410 GA CHOKE" on top. Top lever hammer frame is nickel-plated and marked "ESSEX" "GUN WORKS" stamped over the large letters "SX" on left side. Walnut grip is checkered. Small forend has spring tension release. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel retains approximately 90% original blue with scattered flecking. Action retains nearly all of its nickel finish with some light scuffs and a few scratches. Essex lettering was double stamped at factory. Stocks have a few light marks in their original finish, checkering remains light in color. Bore is excellent. Mechanically excellent.
