Offered is an exceedingly rare Flatside 1866 carbine that remains in original, almost untouched condition. Features full round barrel, full magazine, front barrel band integral front sight, rear barrel band, two leaf folding rear sight, saddle ring and stud, case colored hammer and lever, brass frame, walnut stocks and brass rifle buttplate with trapdoor. Rear sight is stamped "300" and "500" yards. CONDITION: Barrel and tube are a rich, smooth patina. Barrel legends are rather weak but mostly readable. Brass frame is untouched. Carbine has the rare early, flatside loading gate which is brown patina. Hammer and lever have darkened. Screw heads are fairly square. Rear barrel band screw is the most deformed. Top front tang screw is a replacement. Walnut stocks are very good, far better than most carbines with the usual dents and bruises; no dry rot, chipping or cracks. You will find the last four digits of the serial number on the upper stock channel. Last four digits of the serial number are also stamped on the lower inside of the brass buttplate. Buttplate contains three piece cleaning rod. Bore has visible defined rifling with usual abrasions. It is nearly impossible to find these early Flatside carbines with any condition at all, this is one of the best ones we have seen with a smooth, homogenous, unadulterated look. CORRECTION: Estimate changed.
