(1929) The "Crown" grade was introduced in 1929, and was quite popular. This gun with 25" dovetailed barrels is fitted with Churchill rib silver inlaid "XXV" at breech end. Tops of barrels are engraved with Churchill name and Orange Street address. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are engraved with serial number (1350, an obvious mistake, 4350 is on water table and trigger guard tang). Case hardened small sized boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in silver), third fastener, and double triggers. Action is engraved with 70% coverage well cut medium to small scroll within line and scroll borders. "E. J. Churchill" is on scroll terminated riband on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are also scroll engraved. A silver inlaid crown over "XXV" is on floorplate. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over plain wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Gun comes in an old brown canvas leather trimmed case embossed "FJW" on top. Case is lined in green cloth and has "C. B. Vaughn" label in lid. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrels retain over 90% of what appears to be original blue, but may be an old rust re-blue. Action retains 40 - 50% original case hardening color. Blued parts retain nearly all of their re-blue, engraving softened. Stocks retain most of an old oil refinish, checkering freshened. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are out of time. Case is fine with many scuffs and rubs on exterior. Straps are missing, handle is good. Interior cloth is fine with some rubs. Label is fine. MGM137
