This fantastic late production Henry rifle was discovered many years ago in a Texas firearms collection by the late Tommy Rowles. It was sold privately and has been retained by the family ever since. 24-1/4" octagon barrel that has the late style, square back nickel silver front sight and 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight with slide stop screw. Top flat of the barrel has the later large font two line Henry’s Patent date and the New Haven Arms Co. address. Mounted with very fine, straight grained, uncheckered American walnut. Left side of buttstock has a factory sling swivel with corresponding sling loop in the left gullet of the barrel. Receiver is silver plated and engraved by Samuel Hoggson with his trademark full-coverage foliate arabesque patterns with fine punch dot background. Left receiver scrolls originate from the mouth of a stylized wolf’s head in center of sideplate. Both front side panels, rear edges of the receiver, top three flats of the receiver, and buttplate tang are engraved to match. Screws not numbered. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Rifle retains virtually all of its fine original silver finish on all surfaces with only slight losses at carry points and high edges. Wonderful untouched oxidized silver patina on balance. All screw heads are in fine condition with no evidence of marring. Buttplate retains 95% of silver plating and is also engraved. Shiny bore with good strong rifling. Wood finish remains strong and intact with very few mars or impressions. Incredible state of preservation make this specimen worthy of the finest of collections.
