This fine rifle is featured on page 44 of "Bedford County Gunsmiths and Gunmakers" by Vaughn E. Whisker, Sr. and James B. Whisker. This decorative rifle features 30 engraved silver inlays. The rifled octagonal barrel is unsigned and has sights mounted on the top flat. The classic percussion lock of Bedford form is engraved with rocker-penal boarders and is signed "D. Boarder" in script in the center. The rifle has brass furniture including a four piece patchbox with five piercings with silver inlays in each, and engraved boarders and foliate scrolls on the lid. The rifle is decorated profusely with engraved silver inlays, including hearts, a pinwheel surrounding a star on the left side behind cheek piece, and an inlay with an engraved eagle above the cheek piece. Full length stock is of highly figured maple and has classic Bedford County form. Complete with original brass tipped ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina with some edge wear and corrosion at breech. Lock retains a dark gray patina and needs some adjustment, as triggers do not engage hammer. The signature is crisp. Brass retains a mellow patina and silver inlays retains a gray patina. Some of the silver inlays are crudely engraved and may be replacements. Stock has several repaired cracks on both sides of the forend, and a small filled repair against the buttplate on the left side. This is a very attractive and highly decorated Pennsylvania rifle.
