Of just under 2,700 single barrel trap guns made by L.C. Smith, the vast majority were "Specialty" grade, with an estimated total production of 1,860. This good example has 34" barrel fitted with narrow, matted, ventilated rib marked "L. C. SMITH SPECIALTY TRAP". Bottom of barrel is stamped with serial number and nitro steel logo. Boxlock action with L.C. Smith rotary bolt locking is case hardened and engraved with 70% coverage large shaded scroll surrounding game scenes on sides; setter on left, and pair of sitting quail on right. Nicely figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over black Old English pad. Point pattern checkering wraps over top of grip, and side panels are checkered. Matching beaver tail ejector forend has J spring release with knurled secondary release in guitar shaped escutcheon. CONDITION: Very fine to excellent. Barrel retains approximately 80% original blue, thinned and browned on sides at breech end, with thinning and marks overall. Action retains over 80% original case hardening color. Stocks retain over 90% of an old oil refinish. Checkering slightly worn. Pad is relatively new. Bore is excellent with some light striations. Mechanically fine.
