Tropical Fatigue Uniform, circa 1903-10. 1899 Pattern. The coat is constructed of a very thin white linen-like material. Five gold gilt, high domed brass buttons by Horstmann of Philadelphia are held on by small rings. There is no USMC Quartermaster stamps visible inside the coat. This is a rare and seldom seen summer tunic from the Boxer Rebellion / Philippine Insurrection period. Most likely theater made for tropical or humid climate like China or the Philippines as material is thinner than any regulation US made uniform we have seen. Sterling false embroidered 1st Lt. bar on one shoulder and a sterling pin-backed expert rifle badge above left the breast pocket. CONDITION: Some light staining from collar fastener corrosion and light discoloration from period wear. Overall very good.
EARLY 1900S TROPICAL USMC WHITE LINEN UNIFORM COAT.
