This very attractive little gun has 28" dovetailed barrels engraved "Grade 4A Krupp Fluid Steel Barrels" on slightly raised, matted game rib with dolls head extension. Tops of barrels are engraved "Fr. Wilh Heym" "Suhl - Germany". Barrel flats are stamped with September 1929 German proofs for 20 gauge, no chamber length given. Case hardened sideplated boxlock action features automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), square crossbolt third fastener, side clips, pin type cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage very well cut and nicely shaded large scrolling acanthus. Fences are relief carved with open shaded scroll. Bottom of action is engraved "Wilh. Heym. Suhl" "GERMANY". Sideplates are engraved with well detailed scenes of canines and birds; setter and pointer creeping up on a pair of quail on left side plate, and a quick brown fox vexing a pair of lazy ducks on right. Trigger guard is blued and has acanthus on bow and serial number on tang. Straight grip buttstock is of a perfect blend of dark veined and nicely stump figured European walnut. It measures 14-5/8" over brown leather covered pad. Lozenge shaped flush inlet horn drop points are behind locks, and closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with inlet schnabeled horn tip has Deeley type release. Interior of iron is damascened. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refinished, with evidence of considerable field use. Barrels retain approximately 80% original blue, thinned on sides from normal hand wear, and with a considerable number of light marks and scratches. Action retains over 90% of its original color, silvered a bit on bottom and on fences. Lockplates retain nearly all of their original color, with just a hint of silvering on right plate. Trigger guard re-blued, retains nearly all of that blue. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil refinish, with some finish in checkering, which has not been re-cut. Bores are excellent, with one or two very light pings. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Gun is housed in brown pigskin leather VC case lined in burgundy cloth. V L & D leather label along with a Heym label and a charge card for this gun, are in lid. Case is semi french fitted for barrels, action, forend, and a pair of snap caps. Some cleaning equipment is in covered compartment. Case leather is darkening and has many scuffs and rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is excellent, most likely renewed. MGM168.
