This superb specially made compendium of an all time classic, covers all late grades made by Ithaca of their "Knick" model single barrel trap. Each gun has 32" barrels with matted, ventilated ribs. Engine turned barrel flats are marked "K581" through "K581-3" and with chamber length. Information and serial numbers are engraved on Grade 7 and $3000 grade. Flats are also engraved for grade and caliber on the top grades. Serial numbers are marked on lumps on Grades 4 and 5, with grade markings at rear. Boxlock type Knick actions with dual locking lugs engaging protrusions on ends of barrels, have nickel plated triggers on Grades 4 and 5, with gold plated triggers on 7 and $3000. Case hardened actions are engraved in traditional style for each grade, with trap shooter on left, and Indian with drawn bow on right side of Grade 4, which are outlined by large shaded acanthus. Grade 5 has typical, near full coverage, shaded acanthus surrounding vignettes of game birds in two color raised relief with pheasant on left and snipe on right. Bottom of action is engraved with traditional heraldic eagle. Grade 7 has higher style engraving of near full coverage fig leaves and figs with more highly detailed and extensive gold inlay, with a pair of ducks and cattails on left, and a pair of flushing pheasant with foliage on right. Eagle on bottom is in raised relief gold with white gold head and arrows. A dog's head is in relief gold on trigger guard bow. The $3000 Grade has unique treatment of varying sized open shaded scroll, as counterpoint to even more extensive two color gold inlaid game scenes; with a trio of ducks settling into marsh on left side, heads of two drakes along with foliage and marsh are in lighter yellow gold. Right side depicts a trio of flushing pheasant, two cocks with lighter gold heads and an all yellow gold hen, are over light gold foliage in foreground. Bottom of action portrays relief gold ruffed grouse flying over lighter gold pine tree. A flying snipe is on trigger guard bow. Each gun has serial number in gold on trigger guard tang. The engravers signature, "McGraw", is found in foliage on Grade 5 gun, and on small scroll above duck scene on $3000 Grade gun. Signature was not found on Grades 4 or 7, but is indicated on the factory letter. Stocks of crotch figured American walnut vary slightly depending on grade, but match each other very well. Each measures 14-5/8" over Ithaca sunburst pads, and have high Monte Carlo combs. Checkering patterns of each are typical for Grade, with 4, 5, and 7 being done in Fleur-de-Lis style with ribbons through patterns. Grades 5 and 7 have checkered side panels, and Grade 7 has Fleur-de-Lis flourishes into butt. $3000 Grade has relatively simple crenelated pattern checkering with checkered side panels. $3000 Grade also has special sunburst horn grip cap. Gold ovals are on toe lines of 4, 5, and 7 Grades, and a shield is on $3000 Grade. Reverse tapered beaver tail ejector forends with Deeley type releases, are checkered to match each Grade, and have serial numbers and grades on irons. Guns come with their original boxes with correct end labels in large Ithaca marked shipping box. CONDITION: Excellent, all guns are essentially "as new" and appear essentially unfired, with only faint firing halos on breechfaces and a few scattered extremely light marks in finish of stocks, which show some light crazing. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Boxes are fine. A superb, investment quality one-of-a-kind set impossible to replace at any price. Guns are accompanied by their original hang tags, and factory correspondence which states that these are the last guns made for the year 1965, and the Grade 7 is "probably the last one the company produces."
