This rifle can be found on page 68 and 69 on the book "Military Rifles of Japan" by Honeycut and Anthony. The arsenal of manufacture is Koishikawa, Tokyo. Has the early short type bayonet housing, inverted V with narrow guard front sight, open V graduated rear sight to 2000 meters, intact royal chrysanthemum, and two piece buttstock. Handguard has been shortened to 3" forward of rear band. Has smooth safety with knurled face. Carbines in this serial number range have been observed to have an all blue finish, as does this example. Has the smooth steel buttplate. CONDITION: Retains approximately 85% original factory blue. Frame retains 75% original blue, starting to plum. Dust cover is a blue-brown soft patina. Has the acorn type smooth bolt. Stock is very good, showing normal wear. Fine bore and action. Fine, unadulterated (with exception of handguard) Type 44, first type carbine with folding bayonet.
