A Civil War period Model 1863 Springfield rifle musket dated 1864. Eagle and U.S. Springfield markings on lockplate CONDITION: The lockplate is in good condition with no significant pitting. Extremely crisp markings. Barrel has been mechanically clean and is now a steel grey with some minor pitting at breech, but with a visible "VP" proof with eagle. Trigger guard and buttplate have been cleaned to grey metal. The walnut full stock with some wear around lockplate and side nails. Inspector's marks are still present, though worn. Mainspring is strong but gun will not stay on either half or full cock. Ramrod is original. Bore is good and will clean to be better. The classic Union battle rifle of the second half of the Civil War.
