Offered is an extremely nice, all original Allen conversion with beautiful stock cartouche. This started off as an 1863 US musket that was converted by the US Arsenal after the Civil War for the new trapdoor system; patented by Allen. Block is stamped "1869 US" with the eagle head. Left side of barrel and frame have matching serial numbers. Shield style checkering on hammer. Has the long range leaf front sight. Lock is stamped "US SPRINGFIELD 1863". Left side of stock has four near mint cartouche inspector stamps including "ESA" Erskin S. Allen (twice), "HBH" Henry B. Hart, and "FWS" Frederick Sanderson. CONDITION: Barrel and bands are finished in their original white and have minor age freckling with no pits. Full length walnut stock is excellent with the usual dings. Block retains 95% original arsenal blue. Patterned case colors on lock, hammer and release. Strong, clean, near mint bore. One of the better Allen conversions.
