Rare German Gewehr 98 4mm bolt action single shot Zimmerstutzen (Parlor rifle) manufactured by "Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G." in "Oberndorf an Neckar" in Germany. Likely to have been manufactured in the 1920s, when Germany was prohibited from manufacturing military arms, and used Gewehr 98 parts to manufacture sporting/target arms. Breech is in the front and has a 7-1/2" rifled barrel with a bright and shiny rifled bore. The front loading system is complete and functional, and allows for a separate 4mm lead ball and primed cartridge casing to be inserted. Bolt assembly, receiver, bolt release, trigger guard, and floorplate have matching numbers. Front trigger guard screw is numbered but mismatched. Rifle has a walnut stock with checkered grip, and a blued steel buttplate. Rear target sight is adjustable for elevation and windage. Front and rear sling swivels are original to the rifle and accommodate a narrow sporting sling. Rifle is from the Bill Loos collection. CONDITION: Overall excellent. Metal retains more than 90% of its original blued finish, with thinning in some areas. A nice brown patina is on the floorplate and trigger guard. Bore is excellent, and walnut stock is very good to excellent with scattered light dings and handling marks.
