The large frame Merwin Hulbert Army revolver competed with the Colt Single Actions and the Smith & Wesson Schofield for the Western American market. Chambered for the same caliber as the Winchester 1873, these heavy, well-made revolvers were very popular on the Frontier. CONDITION: Barrel serial No. 1478 has good markings and good traces of original finish. Cylinder has traced of original finish in one of the scoops. Frame retains some original nickle finish, mostly on left side. Trigger guard and hammer have no original finish and are mostly brown patina with some minor pitting. Hard rubber grips are good with very little wear. Action is fair and revolver has no real suction left when opened. Bore is fair with well defined rifling. A good example of this large Frontier revolver.
