According to factory records, this commercial Smith and Wesson Model 1917 HE was shipped March 31st, 1931 to Janney-Semple-Hill and Company, Minneapolis, Minnesota. This shoots the .45 ACP cartridge through use of half-moon clips. Features six shot fluted cylinder, double action, square butt N frame with five screws, pinned barrel, fixed sights, Royal Blue commercial finish, and case colored hammer and trigger. Grips are a beautiful pair of Smith and Wesson silver medallion pre-war diamond checkered walnut grips with matching number on right panel. Case colored lanyard ring, like its military counterpart. CONDITION: Gun is in excellent condition with a touch of muzzle wear on barrel, cylinder has a drag line, backstraps have flaked to brown patina, front strap and trigger guard have 98% blue with a few minor rubs. Back half of frame on both sides shows some simple finish flaking to brown patina which is common on this delicate finish. Grips are near mint. As new inside. A rarely encountered gun and this one is far better than the few we are aware of.
