Made from 1879 to 1885. This is an extremely nice all original condition standard rifle. The rear sight is stamped "R" and has slotless screws. Two piece trigger guard. No trapdoor in butt. Lock has eagle and "US / SPRINGFIELD" but is not dated. Left side of barrel has standard "VP" eagle stamp. The block is stamped "US MODEL 1873", no eagle head. The beautiful dark walnut stock is stamped "SWP 1883" on left side for Sam Porter. The script "P" can be found on bottom of wrist. CONDITION: 85% of the colors remain on block. 90% original blue appearance that when lit, is actually a perfect smooth blend of patina and blue. Razor sharp legends. Stock has usual minor handling marks. Mirror bore and fine action. Comes with period original leather sling that features a single brass hook with two keepers. An extremely fine condition Model 1879 all original trapdoor.
