(Circa 1890) These high quality guns, built to G.H. Fox patent, were extremely strong and fairly popular. Very few were highly embellished. Their normal understated quality is evident in this high condition gun, with its 28" twist or laminated steel barrels. Maker's name and address are rolled on top rib. Unusual side swing action integral with forend features barrels which pivot to the right upon pushing thumbpiece forward. Quality of workmanship is evident in near perfect fit of barrels and locking surfaces. Front spring rebounding locks have serpentine deeply chamfered hammers. Sides of locks are marked "AM. ARMS CO." "BOSTON". Nicely figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over skeleton steel buttplate. Hard rubber grip cap is nicely shaped and central portion of buttplate is very nicely filed. CONDITION: Excellent, original as found. Barrels retain approximately 90% original brown with dramatic pattern. Action and locks retain over 90% original case hardening color, silvered on high edges. Trigger guard retains about 40% of its original case color. Stocks retain over 90% of their original oil finish with numerous light marks and scratches. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are frosted with some scattered light pits. Action is tight. Locks are crisp. MGM 56.
