Because the serial number on tang is partially illegible, we have taken the gun apart to determine if it is an absolute deluxe 1886, but we can only find assembly numbers. Full deluxe rifle with octagon barrel, sporting blade front sight, buckhorn elevator adjusted rear sight, full magazine, set trigger and checkered pistol grip deluxe XX walnut stocks with crescent butt. Lower tang is marked "XX" for the grade of deluxe highly figured crotch walnut. Blue and case colored finish with a piano varnish finish on stocks. CONDITION: Good overall. Bore has strong rifling with frosted lands and grooves. Blue finish on barrel and magazine is very thin with about 20% remaining and balance being soft patina. Case colors have faded from frame and has a nickeled appearance. The highly figured XX stocks have evidence of expert restoration/preservation. A crack has been repaired at tang area and is now stable. Two small patches of wood splices at forward corners of forearm at top. Stock finish is very good as restored. Checkering is good, moderately sharp. Fine action.
