(1898) This very attractive rifle has 27 - 7/8" half round, half octagon, number three weight barrel uncut for rear sight. A blade front sight is installed. Winchester information and caliber are stamped on top flat. Case hardened high wall action has standard lever and trigger, along with lightweight hammer. Action is fitted with Lyman no. 15 windage adjustable rear sight, seldom seen today, as it was unpopular due to the fact that it did not fold. Sporting stock with Winchester capped pistol grip is of nicely crotch figured American walnut, and measures 13 - 1/8" over case hardened crescent buttplate. Standard point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching schnabeled forend has inset ebony tip. Weight: 8 lbs. 14 oz. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel retains over 90% original blue with sharp edge wear, and some minor marks. Action retains 85 - 90% original case hardening color, faded a bit from normal hand wear around bottom and on opening lever. Stocks retain over 90% original french polish finish, thinning a bit on forend. There are few very light marks and scratches, checkering lightly worn. Lyman sight is excellent, with nearly all of its blue, with some scratches at front portion. Bore is excellent, but with a few scattered pits at breech end. Mechanically excellent. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Francis Brown. MGM 104.
