Standard configuration with 30" round barrel marked "Old Reliable" and "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN." on top. Barrel is fitted with standard ladder sight and newer spirit level windage adjustable globe front. Caliber marking "40 - 2 1/2" is on left side. Unmarked action with hard rubber side panels has standard lever and trigger, as well as vernier tang sight in integral mount. Nicely crotch figured American walnut hard rubber capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13 - 3/4" over original Sharps composition buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching schnabeled forend screws to barrel. Weight: 9 lbs 5 oz. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains traces of blue, is mostly gray to brown. Action is a mottled silver and gray. Stocks have old oil refinish with a considerable number of light marks and scratches. Checkering is somewhat worn. There are a number of cracks behind action, mostly on left side, with one or two on right. Re-rifled bore is excellent. Mechanically good. Gun is housed in an old English style green canvas full length case with leather trim, lined in burgundy cloth. Case is in fair condition, no interior partitions. Also included is a plastic box of 50 custom loaded cartridges by Colorado Custom Cartridge, loaded with 325 grain cast bullets at 1200 feet per second. Cartridges are as new. PROVENANCE: Original records indicate that this rifle was invoiced on May 20th, 1879 to Arthur S. Winchester, President of the Sharps Rifle Company.
