This firearm started life as a fowler but, due to a loss to the forend, was restored to a musket. It features a round two-stage barrel with deeply stamped "V" and "P" in ovals, possibly denoting that it was made for the American market. There are also traces of earlier English crossed scepters. The reconverted lock is stamped with probably later stamp "FARMER" and has double-line borders. Brass chased and engraved furniture, fowler trigger guard has no hole for sling swivel. Walnut stock relief carved with beavertail around barrel tang. CONDITION: Fair, barrel retains a grey patina with part of percussion bolster still attached. Lock is a crude reconversion back to flint. Stock has 11" of forend replaced and scattered other cracks and marks from use. One screw repair on left side of barrel tang. Brass mounts polished. A nice early piece with an attractive overall appearance.
