(1885) Broad three stripe 30" Damascus barrels are engraved "Westley Richards 170 New Bond St. London Highest Quality" on nicely matted flat rib with dolls head extension. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs and "NOT FOR BALL". Anson Deeley boxlock action (patent use number 8393) features automatic safety, Westley Richards patent third fastener (as the only bolt), and double triggers. Action is engraved with very well cut shaded scroll. "WESTLEY RICHARDS" is in scroll terminated riband on each side. Trigger guard with scene of pointer and pheasant on bow, has serial number on tang. Very nicely veined and lightly figured European walnut Prince of Wales grip buttstock measures 13 - 7/8" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Side panels are checkered and have small drop points. A vacant gold circle is at bottom of grip. Matching splinter forend with inlet horn tip has Deeley release. Gun comes with what appears to be its original leather case, with paper Westley Richards label in lid, with two secondary labels for cleaning and information on assembly and strikers. Case is lined in green cloth. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain approximately 40% of what appears to be original brown. Action has almost all case color faded to bright silver, some wear is evident on bottom and trigger guard. Stocks retain nearly all of an old oil refinish with some marks and dings. Checkering re-cut. Bores are good, with scattered light pitting and frosting. Action is tight. Case leather is darkened, stained, and rubbed. Stitching broken on ends. Newer straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is good, soiled, rubbed, and with some insect damage. Labels are heavily foxed and wrinkled, with some rubs through and soiling. MGM192.
