Manufactured 1863 to 1865. This is an original unaltered model with six groove rifling. Features round barrel, post front sight, ladder rear sight with spring, single band, saddle bar and ring, sling swivel on back of butt, side hammer. Frame is stamped "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE CO BOSTON MASS PATD MARCH 6 1860". One of the most famous and widely used carbines of the Civil War, and the only one known to be tested by Abraham Lincoln for his approval. This is the standard Civil War Spencer that saw action in just about every battle during the conflict. Two inspector stamps can be seen on the left side of the stock, only one of which is readable: "DAP" for Dwight A. Perkins. Side of the barrel has inspector stamp "S". CONDITION: Stamp on top of frame is getting light. Metal is basically patina. Wood is very good to excellent. Strong, well defined bore. Good action. It has obviously seen action and falls into the serial number range of the Spencers that saw constant action from 1863 to 1865. A true, real, all original Civil War used Model 1860 Spencer repeating saddle ring carbine in very good condition for a battle used weapon, not a post-war surplus.
