Specially made to celebrate the arrival of the 21st century, this unique rifle has two sets of 24" shoe lump barrels, one in .470 Nitro Express (number 2000-1) and the other in the classic .375 H&H magnum (no. 2000-2). Both barrel sets are fitted with nicely shaped quarter ribs fitted with one standing and three folding leaf express sights, as well as claw scope bases. Calibers, numbers, and "The Heym Millennium" "2000 Rifle" are inlaid in gold in milled out portions of the matting on ribs. Silver bead front sights are in well shaped ramps. There are gold inlaid bands beneath 2" pyramids of extremely well cut scroll engraving at breech ends. Barrel flats are stamped with 2001 German nitro proofs and with calibers, as well as importers initials and address (NECG). Sling eyes are soldered to bottom of ribs. Coin finished pinless sidelock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), crossbolt third fastener, reinforcing bolsters, and gold plated double triggers (front articulated). Action and lockplates are engraved with truly superb varying sized shaded scroll surrounding gold inlaid scroll gold wire framed vignettes of dangerous game all suitable quarry for this combination of calibers. These scenes are minutely detailed and wonderfully carved in near full relief. An interesting scene of group of three dagga boys contemplate a Nile crocodile snacking on an impala in marshy environment on left lockplate. Right lock depicts a pride of lions with downed zebra, one lioness is at stream bank drinking. Bottom of action depicts a face on charging leopard. It is hard to describe exactly how well executed these scenes are. Bulino details of fur, hair and backgrounds make them almost photographic. Their semi relief carving makes them look like they are about to move. Engravers signature, "A. Scholz", and the date, "2001", are on trigger plate. Fences are semi relief carved with large shaded scrolling acanthus. Top lever is truly special with sculpted face-on bull elephant as viewed from top. Notches in ears provide space for pin type cocking indicators. Viewed from the side, thumb lever is pierced and sculpted picturing the head of a rhino. Elephant's trunk lies up and over thumbpiece. Scroll engraving is on trigger guard bow, and tang extends to engraved steel grip cap. Very finely marbled and lightly figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 5/8" over black leather covered pad. Stock features right hand palm swell, point pattern checkering at grip, swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, and a sling eye. Each barrel set has its own designated beavertail ejector forend with Deeley release. Scopes: .470 barrels are fitted with a Swarovski Habicht 1.25 - 4X 30mm rail scope with duplex and central circle reticle with claw bases. .375 Rifle is fitted for another Swarovski 2.5- 10X Habicht rail scope with crosshair and post reticle which has central X for fine sighting. Both scopes have lens protectors. Weight with .470: 9 lbs 9 oz. ; with .375 barrels, 10 lbs 5 oz. Both action, barrels and scopes are housed in high quality oak and leather case with leather trimmed green cloth outer cover. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth with brown leather Heym label in lid. Case contains instruction booklets for rifle and both scopes, round oil bottle, empty boxes of Kynoch ammo, and battery packs for lighted reticles for each scope. CONDITION: Excellent, essentially as new, appears unfired since proof. There are a scattering of light marks from handling and assembly most notably 1/2" ding on left rear buttstock. Mechanically excellent. Scopes and case are excellent. This superb Heym creation is probably never to be equaled, and if so, would undoubtedly cost well in excess of $100,000.00. MGM175.
