This highly experienced big bore double rifle has 26" chopper lump barrels fitted with quarter rib holding one standing, one folding leaf express rear sight (one leaf missing). A small silver bead is in matching front ramp. Tops of barrels are engraved with remnants of Lawn and Alder London address. Rib has square shouldered dolls head extension. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for .470 express, 75 grains cordite, and 500 grain bullet. This information is also engraved on bottom rib where covered by forend. A sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Robust boxlock action features automatic safety, sliding third fastener, side clips, bushed strikers, and double triggers. Action has geometric border engraving. "Lawn & Alder" is in scroll flanked riband on each side. Trigger guard has serial number on tang and extends to steel grip cap. Nicely streaked, dense European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over red "Old English" pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and a sling eye along with a vacant silver oval, are on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Weight: 11 lbs 2 oz. CONDITION: Good as found. Barrels retain most of an old re-black. Stippling on rib nearly polished away with some dents along edges. Action is grey-brown patina. Top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard have most of an old re-blue. Stocks have old oil refinish with numerous scratches and bumps. Checkering poorly re-cut with subsequent wear. Bores are good to fine, frosted and dark in grooves. Action is somewhat loose. Barrels are on face. A dangerous game rifle that has certainly "been there" in one of the most desirable calibers.
