(Circa 1875) According to an article in "The Canadian Journal of Arms Collecting" Vol V No. 1, February 1967 (This article is included with the lot.), which describes one of these unusual pistols (serial number 30), the original order for these guns is subject to speculation. It is known that the highest serial number observed is 114. They were originally made in 24 gauge. This gun (number 97) is made on an early large action with markings of makers name, address, and 1864 and 1866 patent dates on lower left side of action, dating it to around 1875. It has all the attributes of gun number 30, as described, including the letters "REM" cast into the bronze grip frame. This gun is numbered in all places indicated, the same as number 30, including penciled in serial numbers on grips. This short walnut stock with matching serial number on bottom of brass attachment piece is also identical to the one described in the article. These guns were offered by Bannerman's re-bored to 20 gauge, in 1923 and 1925 for $12.75 including stock. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal parts retain approximately 70% original blue, most loss on frame due to flaking. Area with makers name and address shows some cleaning. Stocks retain nearly all of their original varnish with numerous marks and dings. Bore is excellent. Mechanically fine. A rare piece of Remington history. MGM191.
