According to the factory letter, this civilian Model 1851 revolver was part of a 50 gun shipment sent June 19th, 1861 to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York as a standard blued, brass, and wood model. This was only two months after the Civil War had erupted. It is a standard revolver in all respects with its octagon barrel, six shot cylinder, naval battle scene, brass straps, and walnut grips. This is referred to as an early 4th Model with the large brass trigger guard, "36 CAL" stamp not present. New York barrel address. Matching numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder pin, barrel, wedge, loading lever, and cylinder. "COLTS PATENT" stamped on left side of frame. CONDITION: All metal is basically grey patina with age freckling. Brass is not cleaned. Cylinder has 50% visible naval battle scene, overall grey patina with age freckling, original nipples, and partial safety pins. Excellent grips with no original varnish. Very good rifling with minor usual abrasion. Indexes fine. This revolver was shipped in the same gun shipment as the previous lot, No. 2562.
