This outstanding US Springfield Trapdoor carbine serial number 146144 has the 1879 pattern slide adjustable rear sight with slotless screws. Three position tumbler, thick wrist stock with a crisp SWP 1880 cartouche for Samuel W. Porter, and steel US marked buttplate with trap for cleaning rod tools. Case colored low arch trap door is crisply marked US Model 1873. Two piece steel trigger guard with circle "P" inspectors mark stamped into stock beneath trigger guard tang. CONDITION: Outstanding. This is one of the finest condition trapdoor carbines this cataloger has ever handled. The barrel retains virtually all of the arsenal applied blue finish with hints of period brown coming up from underneath the finish. The bore is bright and shiny with razor sharp rifling. The trapdoor retains almost all of its vivid case colors and most of the arsenal applied protective lacquer. The hammer and lock plate are near perfect with most all blue finish remaining with only high point losses on the hammer spur from storage or handling. The stock is superb with a magnificent cartouche and inspection, several very minor impressions exist from storage. The trigger guard has most all of its arsenal blue finish with minor edge wear. An absolutely outstanding example that would be difficult to improve upon.
