Retaining most of its original polish, this bowie features a blade with a sweeping, sharpened clip point, and is stamped SAML ROBINSON'S ORIGINAL BOWIE KNIFE on its face, and SAMUEL ROBINSON SHEFFIELD on the ricasso. The guards and reclining lion pommels are of stamped nickel silver, and the scales of gray horn with a gimp shield on the obverse. No sheath. About identical to the example pictured in The Antique Bowie Knife Book by Adams, Voyles, & Moss (pp.282-283). c.1840s-1850s. Samuel Robinson was established as a cutler in Sheffield by 1841 and operated into at least the 1860s, bowie knives bearing his mark are quite rare. CONDITION: In antique mint condition, with only a few scattered sport on the blade and a few small areas of insect damage on the reverse handle scale.
