Although made in sections, the quality of carving on this tanto sets it apart from the usual tourist items one sees. The handle, made in two sections, ends in a very finely carved dragon with carved teeth and inlaid black eyes. The tsuba, finely carved, and the saya is carved with Japanese samurai warriors in battle, ending in the scaly body of the dragon. Saya has a single ashi, or hanger, finely carved en suite. Blade is 10 - 1/2" long of Shobu tsukuri shape, no temper visible. CONDITION: Tsuba has one age split, otherwise ivory is in relatively good condition with some dirt. A far better than usual one of this well known type.
