This is a scarce of a Civil War issue, U.S. cavalry enlisted man’s saddlery gear. This M1859 saddle is the mid-war type, with the spaded D-ring, linking the quarter straps. CONDITION: The saddle is in used, but nice display condition evidencing period wear to the rawhide seat, with all pieces present, but some stitching loose on the front rawhide portions. The stirrup straps still have both, original sweat leathers affixed. The original maker’s brass name plate is still attached to the tree and reads: 'C.PLOESER - MAKER ST. LOUIS.' Blanket strap guides remain in place, as does the brass front pommel size (11 1/2) shield. Also retains period correct saddle bags, blue woolen girth strap and stirrups with holes cut out of the leather fronts. This is a Civil War period field modification to allow the trooper's toes more room. Comes with custom saddle display stand. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
Condition: (Good).
