For another example of this model, see number 117 on pages 244-245 in "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter. Like the 1st Model, these pistols were issued to Virginia Cavalry, and each trooper carried one pistol and a sword. A total of 2,044 2nd pistols were made during the four years of production. This graceful pistol was copied from the Harper's Ferry Model 1805. This model was the first American made Martial pistol to have an iron swivel ramrod. The round barrel in unmarked and is mounted with an iron rob below which connects the iron swivel type ramrod. The flat lockplate is marked "VIRGINIA" in the center and "RICHMOND / 1812" at the tail. Standard brass 2nd Model furniture and plain walnut halfstock with brass band at the end. CONDITION: Barrel has been cleaned and retains a translucent applied brown finish with some marks around touch hole. Ramrod is a replacement. Lock retains an applied brown finish with chemical spotting. Lock has been reconverted and markings have been refreshed. Brass retains a dark, unpolished patina. Stock is very good showing some wear and scattered marks. DMG
