J. Henry "Saber Rifle" manufactured in Boulton, Pennsylvania between September 1861 and March 1862. Percussion lock marked "J. Henry and Son" vertically behind hammer and also on the left rear barrel flat. One of 30 rifles supplied to "P.S. Justice" with flattened trigger guard according "American Shoulder Arms" by George D. Moller. Original fixed front sight with adjustable rear sight. Gun has brass furniture with full walnut musket style stock. Rifled barrel with stud for saber style bayonet. Comes with 1861 dated "Collins and Co" marked brass hilted saber style bayonet. Bayonet is not serial numbered and comes with original style leather sheath. Original style leather sling and wooden muzzle plug and cleaning worm in patchbox. CONDITION: Gun has aged patina with metal surfaces having handling marks with unpolished brass parts. Lock has traces of original finish fading to a plum color. Wood has traces of original varnish with small handling marks and scratches. Gun has good mechanics with a shootable bore. Leather sling appears to be period with some small cracking. Bayonet has usage marks and has been possibly sharpened at one time. Sheath appears to be a replacement. DLM2019
