Early 19th century. Probably New England. The mortar and pestle in early "soldier blue" over original robin's egg blue painted surfaces. This maple, well turned example of nice proportions and having a swelled body footed mortar, with a pronounced outset rim. The pestle with swelled lozenge handle terminating in flattened ball end. Very good patina and in excellent untouched original condition.
