This is a standard unmarked Confederate cavalry saber. Brass hilt has your typical sourthern reddish hue to it due to the high copper content. Plain blade with unstopped fuller. Single strand iron wire on grip appears to be a restoration, as does the leather under it. Sword is accompanied by an 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber scabbard which is not original to this sword. It is stated in the consignors notes that this item came from the Webb Family of Henry County, TN and was carried by one of their ancestors. We do not know who exactly. CONDITION: Blade is dark showing moderate to heavy pitting. Some nicks in the cutting edge which appears in spots to have been sharpened a long time ago. Brass has a pleasing very dark dirty patina to it. Wire and leather on handle appear to be more contemporary. Scabbard retains a pleasing patina but is in much better condition than the sword, looks to have been plated at some point. GR

Condition: (Good).
