The 25" long saber type blade with two fullers and cabalistic marks towards ricasso "U U", possibly an earlier blade. The cast and chased gilt bronze hilt of a Middle Eastern flavor but clearly English. The ivory grip scales held by two gilt bronze rivets. The scabbard with three mounts comprising well cast and chased chape, locket, and midmount with scallop shell design and florals, and full Prosser signature. The leather scabbard appears to be the original. This most interesting sword was probably made for an English officer of diminutive stature using an earlier family blade. CONDITION: Blade is polished over pits and appears to be slightly reduced towards tip. Gilt bronze hilt retains much original bright fire gilding. Ivory grip scales in good condition with some longitudinal age cracking, to be expected. Scabbard mounts are excellent retaining most of their bright fire gilding. Leather scabbard in fine condition with one minor repair on right towards chape. A most attractive British officer's sword, private purchase, by one of England's greatest sword maker's and dated at the height of the Napoleonic Wars.
