This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2019
Blade stamped on both sides, in fuller, Birmingham. 35 - 1/2" blade with broad central fuller deeply stamped Birmingham. Basket guard of characteristic form. Onion pommel. Fish skin grip wrapped with three strands of braided copper wire. Blade is 1 - 3/4" wide at ricasso. Sword has what appears to be its original scabbard with steel locket, missing chape, in tender but complete condition except as noted. CONDITION: Hilt shows some evidence of very old repaired damage, missing one branch. Overall would rate very good for this type of sword. Does not appear to have been apart. All together a most attractive English backsword that could well have been carried during the Seven Years War and later during the American Revolution by a British trooper. PROVENANCE: FORMER COLLECTION OF THE NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART.
