Lot consists of (A) Pierced cup hilt rapier, Italian, circa 1640 with 43" long rapier blade. Cup pierced with flowers writhen quillons and knuckleguard. Pommel cast and chased with florals. Spirally fluted wire wrap grip with two Turk's head appear to be original. CONDITION: Rapier is heavily patinated throughout. (B) Civil War American NCO or musician sword with brass hilt and scabbard. (C) Unidentified nickel bladed continental saber with etched blade. (D) French Chassepot bayonet dated 1870 (E) Composite broadsword with blade etched "Do not draw me without reason or sheathe me without honor" in Latin (F) A copper gilt hilted small sword with etched blade Wollen in Thun, (G) a fragmentary mid 19th century English saber in scabbard with pipe back blade. CONDITION: All blades show evidence of use and patination throughout. Item G has a handle that is coming off. Item (C) has had its handle put back together at some point. PROVENANCE: FORMER COLLECTION OF THE NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART.
