Lot consists of: (A) A spectacular design, this boot knife/dagger retains its original double edges with choils, hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters, with a tapered full tang. The blade is etched "R. Gaston" over "Woodruff, SC" over "R. Easler". The pinned Sambar India stag handles are tapered with red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: An unused knife, the stag handles have shrunk, resulting in one diagonal pin crack on the mark side near the bolsters, as well as the stag pulling away from the liners at butt of the knife. Ron Gaston of Woodruff, South Carolina & Russell O. Easler Jr. of Woodruff, South Carolina. When Mr. Gaston fell ill in his later life, his good friend and fellow knifemaker, Mr. Easler, stepped in and helped complete a number of Mr. Gaston's knives. Thus the markings found on this particular knife. (B) Another gorgeous design, this medium fighter retains its original single edge, "Ron Gaston" over "Woodruff, SC" signature etch and hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters. The tapered full tang is surrounded by dovetailed and pinned Sambar India stag handles and red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: An unused knife, there are four dinks along the top edge, along with slight shrinkage of the stag scales, resulting in three pin cracks on the reverse side of the knife. Ron Gaston of Woodruff, South Carolina was a knifemaker for close to 25 years when he passed away in 2006. A dairy farmer by trade, Mr. Gaston became an extremely prolific maker and was featured within many cutlery publications at the height of his career. A proud member of the Knifemakers' Guild, his knives are very well established and continue to be collected around the world.
