Lot consists of: (A) A stunning knife, this large upswept skinner/hunter features a single and original sharpened edge with hand rubbed finish, stylized "Montjoy" etch, engraved bolsters and full tapered tang. The pinned and lined burled wood handle is complemented with an inlaid ivory oval on each side. No sheath. CONDITION: An unused knife, the handles do present moderate shrinkage, with some checks in the mark side of the wood, as well as some minor cracks on the reverse side inlaid ivory oval. (B) This second, large upswept skinner/hunter also features a single and original sharpened edge, a stylized "Montjoy" etch and hand rubbed finish. The finely engraved bolsters are complemented by a fileworked full tapered tang, burled wood handle secured by mosaic pins, a lined lanyard tube and red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: A knife placed out for display only, there are polishing scratches evident on the unused blade, along with slight handle shrinkage. Claude Montjoy of Clinton, South Carolina was a knifemaker for almost 30 years when he passed away in 2011 at the age of 74. A member of the South Carolina Association of Knifemakers, Mr. Montjoy was highly skilled in his craft, creating a large variety of styles and types including slipjoints, interframes, hunters and fighters.
